Who brings Old Vienna to a house party?
Alana Adetola, circa fall 2011, who grabbed the niche Molson brew on her way.
“The only reason we chatted was because I was sitting with his friends and he made fun of the beer I brought,” Alana remembers of that first encounter with partner, Keith. “I’m like trying to make excuses, and as I’m doing it, he goes, ‘I love Old Vienna, can I have one?’”
That’s the anniversary Alana and Keith just celebrated—14 years together.
"Keith and I rented out our Airbnb the day before the wedding, so we did the complete opposite of traditional—we spent the night together, and we saw each other the morning of and got ready together," Alana says. "We’ve been living together for all of our relationship, but that day ... It still felt really special and really nice. It was nice to have that quiet time, just the two of us."
The novel one is coming this spring—one year married. And they cannot wait.
Starting with the cake.
“It was very hard for me to pack up our slices for our anniversary,” Alana admits. “I knew from the beginning that I was getting it from The Grange Outpost. The first time I had a cake from there, I was like, ‘Oh, if I ever want a cake for no reason, or a reason, it’s coming from here.”

For their May wedding, the seasonal fruit filling ended up being Keith’s favorite: strawberry rhubarb. Just one of the many moments of serendipity woven into their wedding day.
Take the intimate ceremony at the Martin House, home to many a date night for Alana and Keith that’s only available for quiet celebrations. Or the picturesque sky in photos, only captured thanks to quick thinking by her family to change up the order and do those first. (Proof our wedding photographer bride was fully out of work mode.)
“It worked out perfectly; I couldn’t have imagined it,” Alana says of the skies opening up as soon as they came inside for the ceremony. “We had the skylight and we were surrounded by the plants. It was beautiful to see and hear the rain falling. It was the most perfect setting.”
A dinner party at Marble + Rye was the ideal for the food-obsessed couple, who filled the restaurant with close family and friends. No front-and-center sweetheart table here, but rather a bistro table home base in the heart of it all.
And only one exception to the adults-only rule: the couple’s daughter, Ada.
“Having her be there, looking over and seeing my mother-in-law holding her during the vows or her reaching for me as I walked down the aisle,” Alana says. “The fact that I get to see her cute, little 2-year-old face and equate that with memories of my wedding day for the rest of my life? Amazing. So special. And to me, it’s even more romantic.”
