Inside the Martin House with Buffalo Homes
Here's an up-close look at Frank Lloyd Wright's iconic work in the heart of North Buffalo by photographer and founder of Buffalo Homes Matt Digati. To see more from his recent visit to this local legend, check out the Buffalo Homes feature.
In the neighborhood
I love this photo from the drone because it allows you to see the entire estate while being close enough to really understand the scale. The pergola shooting out the back and the long front facade showcase the incredible angles and line work.
Jewett Parkway welcome
A very stately section of the Martin House. Perfectly symmetrical in the foreground while offering up variety as the eye works further back. Possibly my favorite of the exterior shots.
Verdant plots
The garden offers an area that makes you feel like you stepped out of Buffalo and into a different period in time. This angle in particular offers so many different layers of parallel and intersecting lines, all accompanied by beautiful landscaping.
The build-up
This shot is from inside the pergola leading to the statue. A perfect way to lead the eye from the house to the conservatory.
The reveal
Excellent blending of hardwood and brick inside the conservatory. It’s filled mostly by natural light with small accents of artificial lighting. Everything works naturally around the statue though, keeping it the center of attention.
Living lines
So many details to admire in this shot. Everything is symmetrical with a lot of depth. The hardwood running both ways across the room really defines this room while leaving it quite open to the rest of the house.
Cornering beauty
In addition to these skylights being very functional, they are absolutely beautiful. They let a lot of light into the home and offer a unique perspective for guests inside. Sitting down and looking up seems like the ideal way to admire these works of art.
Detailed harmony
This photo brings everything together for me. The brick, wood, lighting features, stained glass. Everything seems perfectly in place, yet there are so many angles to take in. Frank Lloyd Wright showing why he is one of the greatest architects of all time.
