Inside a whimsical attic-turned-whole-home interior refresh
What started as just an attic renovation on an E. B. Green-designed house slowly turned into a near-complete home overhaul.
“About 10 to 11 months. We started to see some of the work and then we’re like, ‘Oh this is really good, maybe we’ll just add one more room,’ you know, and then you see something else, and then add one more.” And then you have a full home renovation.

Dream-worthy reading nooks became reality by pairing Schumacher wallpaper that inspired the attic’s fairytale aesthetic with custom pillows and storage.

In addition to plenty of cozy nooks to curl up in, the third floor features two guest rooms, an office and bathroom.

This book nook is drenched in sunlight by day and illuminated by traditional wall sconces by night.

The attic bathroom is masterclass in utilizing space. West End Interiors reworked the floorplan, tucking the sink into the window alcove to allow for a roomier shower.

For the girls’ rooms, it was all about timeless designs that will grow along with them. And, of course, smart storage like the built-in drawers that double as seating in the playroom.

Textured grass-cloth wallpaper pairs perfectly with the whimsy colors, custom roman shades and the Lego creations in the girls’ second-floor playroom.

The working fireplace features the same Calcutta Viola marble used in the girls’ shared bathroom.

The bathroom connecting the two girls rooms is covered in special details like the penny tile with custom pattern laid throughout and the distinctive Calcutta Viola marble on the vanity countertop and bordering the inset shower shelves.

Chosen art and family photos give each of the girls’ bedrooms their own personal touch.

This statement piece by Buffalo-born artist Sarah Myers comes with sentiment: Leah bought it from her aunt’s own impressive collection.

The emerald green powder room houses a show-stopping carved Calcutta Viola marble sink sourced from Turkey via Etsy, with all Water Works features in unlacquered brass.

The mudroom off the side entry is warm, inviting and outfitted for function. Penny tile and wainscoting exemplify how the design decisions celebrate the home’s history.
