Dutch apple pie with crumb topping

“All of our crusts are homemade at the bakery, and the recipes are a family secret carried on for generations,” explained Carol Parker of Eileen’s Bakery, which is named after her great grandmother. In addition to Dutch apple, Eileen’s carries all the classics including pumpkin, mincemeat, cherry, strawberry rhubarb, raspberry, blueberry, chocolate cream, banana cream, coconut cream and lemon meringue.

Elm Street Bakery’s special-order pies are in high demand around the holidays, and while the Concord Grape (pictured) will be out of season by Thanksgiving, you can still order classics like apple, triple berry, pumpkin or maple pecan, whipped up by lead pastry chef, Renee Newton. Fresh frozen berries are used in the berry pies in winter to maintain the quality and flavor.

Mazurek’s most popular flavors for the holiday include apple crumb, chocolate custard and pumpkin cream. “All of our pies are made from scratch,” said Mazurek’s owner Ty Reynolds. “We’re an old-school traditional Polish bakery,”

For something delicious but less traditional, Ohlson’s decadent peanut butter cream pie is made with silky homemade custard and real whipped cream. “Our pies are special because we use all fresh ingredients. Our pie crust is homemade with real butter—so buttery and flaky and delicious! Each pie is made my hand and no steps are skipped. We use fresh homemade custard for our cream pies and real whipped cream.”

Fresh fruit tart

A twist on the traditional pie is Muscoreil’s signature tart. “Our signature fruit tart is on a shortbread crust painted with white chocolate to keep it from getting soggy. It’s topped with fresh fruit and finished with an apricot glaze to give it a nice shine,” said owner Philip Sydoriak.
