It’s “A Whole New World” for audiences.
From the glittering gold costumes, the stunning massive towers designed in an art deco style and 84 special effects—including a flying magic carpet—Aladdin takes audiences on an extravagant and magical musical journey.
The iconic characters, Aladdin, the Genie, Jafar and Princess Jasmine, will dazzle audiences in an immersive experience Thanksgiving week (Nov. 22-27) at Shea’s Buffalo Theatre, a special engagement for the M&T Bank Broadway Series. Due to high demand, the theater has added two matinees—Wednesday, Nov. 22, and Friday, Nov. 24—as part of the schedule, for a total of nine performances.
“This incredibly enchanting story has all the Disney magic going on from the moment the curtain rises,” said Kimberly Boyle, Associate Director of Marketing & PR. “Think adventure, comedy, romance—it’s all there. And it’s a perfect time in the holiday season to feature it. People will feel like they’re on their own adventure and able to see and experience a different place, the fictional Arabian city of Agrabah. It’s such a beautiful show. The extensive sets, the gorgeous costumes and the special effects are Disney all the way.”

Aladdin tells the story of the beloved street urchin with a kind heart who pines for a princess way out of his league. After meeting him outside the castle one day, Jasmine tells Aladdin that her father, the Sultan, has said she must marry a prince before her birthday, which is in three days. With the help of a fast-talking, all-powerful Genie and his magic oil lamp—his “itty bitty living space”—from the Cave of Wonders, Aladdin embarks on an adventure that will test his will and character. Using his three wishes, he is able to woo Jasmine, earn the adoration of his kingdom and discover that one’s true worth is a treasure that comes from within.
The show’s music, written by eight-time Oscar-winner Alan Menken, also won an Academy Award for Best Original Song, “A Whole New World.” In addition to this masterful theme song, the musical includes the iconic tunes “Friend Like Me,” “One Jump Ahead,” “Prince Ali” and “Arabian Nights,” among others.
Aladdin played at Shea’s to sold-out performances in 2018, and Boyle said she is expecting the popular musical will experience a sell-out again.
