Strike a pose: Queen City Fashion Week

Mark your calendars — Queen City Fashion Week returns this year Sept. 17-22.

Event director Rick Warne, a local photographer who has shot high profile events such as the White House Correspondents’ Dinner and Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York, established the event in 2016.

"This year we are taking it to a new level — the Friday night fashion show event in particular is unlike anything people in Buffalo have ever seen," said Warne.

The event is intended to celebrate WNY’s fashion and design industry. Warne said he sees a lot of talented designers coming out of Buffalo State and Villa Maria colleges, along with some exciting local boutiques and models. He hopes Queen City Fashion Week can provide them more exposure.

"A lot of budding designers need a place to showcase their work; if there’s not a big stage for people to put out their work, another designer will drift through who won’t make it," said Warne.

The kick–off press event is a cocktail reception on Sunday, Sept. 17 at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, where Mayor Brown will proclaim Queen City Fashion Week.

The week’s next event is an industry mixer that’s open to the public on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at Hotel @ The Lafayette. A fashion show will highlight some of the area’s top boutiques and retailers, along with a DJ and vendor tables. Tickets are $25 at

An airplane hangar will be decked out for the main event on Friday, Sept. 22 — the Gala Fashion Show — at Executive AirShare on Cayuga Road. Jets and luxury cars from Towne Alfa Romeo, Towne BMW and Towne Maserati will also be on display. Warne promises an extraordinary show with premier models and designs, dancers, state-of-the-art light displays and a few surprises. Local designers include Rasheed Holley, Furs By Russell, Bureau, Amy Tang, Anna Dusza, For Eva, Alicia Marvan, Anoushka Eve Designs and TT New York. Popular local boutiques will also take part, including Annarlette, Leelee, Mabel Danahy, Half and Half and Modern Nostalgia. Guests will also enjoy luxury vendors, a "phenomenal VIP section" and food by Acqua, said Warne.

A percentage of this year’s proceeds will go to Roswell Park Cancer Institute and Carly’s Club. Sponsors in addition to Towne Auto and Executive AirShare include Buffalo Magazine, Visualeyes, Villa Maria College, Merrill Lynch and Gates Circle Wine and Liquor.

The Gala show starts at 6:30 p.m. All tickets are $125 and include open bar and hors d’oeuvres. Find tickets at For more information, visit Queen City Fashion Week on Facebook and Instagram.
