3 creative caffeine fixes — and where to find them

Why sip on an average, everyday cup of joe when you can get your caffeine in creative new ways? Stay energized with a pick-me-up from one of these three local establishments.

Coffee cocktails

Double your buzz with a signature coffee cocktail from Caffe Aroma, like the Cafe Italiano (Amaretto, coffee and whipped cream), Irish Coffee (spiked with Baileys), or Gaelic Coffee (spiked with whiskey). Their famous Aroma Martini — made with espresso and espresso vodka — is also a great option. Coffee cocktails ($7) are available in full strength or decaf; get them for $5 during happy hour on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday from 7–9 p.m.

Espresso ice cream

Lake Effect's Revolution Coffee ice cream.

It may be winter, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy ice cream — especially when it comes with an extra kick. Lake Effect ice cream is known for creating unusual ice cream flavors (Black Sesame) and incorporating local favorites (Paula’s Donuts).  Their coffee-flavored treat, Revolution Coffee, also has a local tie-in — it has Turkish-ground Revolution Espresso beans mixed into it, the same ones used at Public Coffee and Espresso.

Lake Effect Ice Cream
Monday-Friday 4 p.m. – 9 p.m., Saturday-Sunday noon – 9 p.m.
79 Canal St, Lockport (also at 1900 Hertel Ave, Buffalo, but closed until spring); Lakeeffecticecream.com

Perks creates innovative lattes with a hint of floral flavor. Try the Lavender Cold Brew (lavender simple syrup with Perks’ signature cold brew coffee on ice), or Lavender London Fog (Earl Grey tea, homemade lavender simple syrup and steamed milk).

Also available are the Rose London Fog (made with homemade rose syrup) and Rose Latte (espresso, homemade rose syrup, and steamed milk). In addition to the floral flavors, don’t miss the Harry Potter-inspired Butterbeer Latte with espresso, steamed milk, caramel, hazelnut, and toffee. Prices are $3 and up.
