One reason why the University at Buffalo's Center for the Arts is beloved among Western New Yorkers is its sheer variety of events.

The 2014-15 season is no different, as a press release includes dates for myriad genres of music, theater, dance and comedy. We've selected a few highlights from the calendar, which ranges from Sept. 4, 2014 through April 22, 2015, and then posted the whole list of events at the bottom:

1) Christina Perri, 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 4 (tickets): Our excitement was palpable when Perri's intimate show was first announced in June, and the singer-songwriter hasn't exactly hid in the shadows since, as her glamorous dress in her music video for "Burning Gold" garnered attention from vh1. If you're a tattoo aficionado, there are some neat narratives behind Perri's.

2) LehrerDance, 8 p.m. on Oct. 4 (tickets): Exactly a month after Perri's concert, the Amherst venue welcomes dance troupe LehrerDance, which partners with the University at Buffalo and regularly uses the CFA's rehearsal space when the outfit isn't on the road. Directed by Jon Lehrer, these professionals engage in awe-inducing, gravity-defying routines that hone in on the remarkable human physique, balance and coordination among dancers.

3) Boyz II Men, 8 p.m. on Nov. 22 (tickets): While Boyz II Men's website confidently refers to the band as "the greatest R&B group of all-time" -- but who are we to contest the merit of that claim? -- the three-part a cappella sensations just keep chugging along, releasing 11 studio albums over 23 years, and the 12th, "Collide," drops in late September. We do not believe that Howie Day is a special guest, but even so, this event qualifies as a terrific date night.

4) 2Cellos, 7:30 p.m. on April 21, 2015 (tickets): No, this isn't 2 Chainz gone orchestral (although that would be funny) -- but it's two handsome Croats who are world-class cellists. You may remember them from their cover of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal," which I'll shortly have lodged in your brain for the remainder of the day. Former Pink Floyd producer Bob Ezrin had a major hand in the recording of 2Cello's second album, 2013's "In2ition," which should tell you all you need to know about the album's quality.

Others of note: The return of Esperanza Spalding, Brian Setzer Orchestra's Christmas concert, Russian National Ballet Theatre's production of "Sleeping Beauty," the WYRK Acoustic Show featuring Scotty McCreery, Eric Paslay and Danielle Bradbery, and the BPO & Richmond Ballet's collaboration on "The Rite of Spring"
